Womens Spring Meeting event abandoned due to Storms

Of Best Laid Plans of Mice & (Wo)Men

Who could have predicted that on Monday 12th May, the 60 players, from 13 Hertfordshire clubs, meeting at Sandy Lodge, would, after only 6 or 7 holes, be called in because of severe storm warnings!  With a shotgun start allowing all players to get some golf in, in apparently brilliant sunshine, they would end up congregating in the club house – and ultimately, enjoying an early meal.  In vindication, the heavens opened during the meal – torrential rain falling amidst some thunder and lightning – at a time that all the players would have otherwise still been on of the course.

The management and staff of Sandy Lodge were exceptional – not just in ensuring we were fed and watered wonderfully and generally very well looked after – but in agreeing to give each player a voucher for a future round.  And the players’ generosity raised a further £120 from our ball sweep, for the Hertfordshire Golf Disability Golf initiative – enabling more sessions to be organised for stroke, heart and parkinsons sufferers.

The irony of course is that the same thing happened last year there – with the Centenary Cup having to be abandoned – but due to be played, again at Sandy Lodge, on 22nd May – so hopefully this isn’t example of things coming in threes!!!!
